21.2 Performing grep command searches

From the editor or listener, the command Meta-X grep can be used to perform a grep search from within the grep browser.

  1. Type Meta-X grep from within the listener or editor and press Return.
  2. In the echo area of the listener, specify the arguments you want to give to grep and press Return.

As a general rule, you give two arguments: a string to search for, and a file or list of files to search.

The grep browser appears. Any matches that are found are displayed in the main area.
