3 The Mouse

3.1 The mouse

The mouse is a two- or three-button accessory that you can use to control the window environment. When you move the mouse, a mouse cursor image moves around on the screen in the corresponding direction and by corresponding distances to your movement.

The mouse cursor image on the screen can be any Window Tool Kit bitmap. You can also define functions that are automatically invoked when certain mouse actions occur, such as when the mouse moves into a specified region or a particular mouse button is pressed.

This chapter discusses how to change the mouse cursor and how to obtain and use information about the current status of the mouse. Information on using the mouse with the Window Tool Kit's scrolling windows is provided in Chapter 2, "Bitmaps, Viewports, and Windows".
