17.5.4 External formats and the LispWorks Editor

The LispWorks Editor uses open with : element-type :default to read and write files. On reading a file, the external-format is remembered and used when saving the file. The external format name is displayed in the Editor tool. On writing a Unicode (UCS-2) file, the Byte Order Mark is written.

See the LispWorks Editor User Guide for more details.
