Issue MUFFLE-WARNING-CONDITION-ARGUMENT Writeup

Issue: MUFFLE-WARNING-CONDITION-ARGUMENT

Reference: Draft 8.81

Issue: CONDITION-RESTARTS

Category: CHANGE/CLARIFICATION

Edit History: Version 1, 06/15/91, Kim Barrett

Version 2, 10/17/91, Steve Haflich, current practice

Problem Description:

A user recently noted that MUFFLE-WARNING was left out of the list of restart

functions which take an optional condition argument.

Proposal:

Add MUFFLE-WARNING to the list of restart functions which take an optional

condition argument.

Editorial Impact:

None. The editor included this change when merging the CONDITION-RESTARTS

proposal into the draft, with a comment stating that it was pending a formal

decision by the committee.

Rationale:

Both authors of the CONDITION-RESTARTS proposal claim that leaving out

MUFFLE-WARNING was an oversight.

Current Practice:

IIM implements this proposal.

Lucid does not appear to have implemented CONDITION-RESTARTS yet.

Franz does not implement the optional argument to MUFFLE-WARNING.

Discussion:

Note that Steele CLtL2 p.913 also conforms to this proposal without

comment, so users will indeed expect it. - smh 17oct91
